Adi Kailash Tour Package from Mumbai
Ask anyone who has planned an Adi Kailash trip from Mumbai, and they'll tell you the biggest logistical challenge isn't the mountain roads—it's reaching the starting point. There are currently no direct flights between Mumbai and the Kumaon region, meaning almost every traveller first flies to Delhi before continuing to Kathgodam by train or road. From there, the journey climbs through Pithoragarh, Dharchula, Gunji, and Jyolingkong before reaching the sacred Adi Kailash region. This transition from a major metropolitan airport to remote Himalayan roads is exactly where many self-planned itineraries lose valuable time, which is why SnazzyTrips, a leading Uttarakhand DMC builds the connecting-flight day into the itinerary rather than treating it as an afterthought.
Known as Chhota Kailash, Adi Kailash attracts devotees from across Maharashtra and Gujarat who wish to experience the spiritual significance of the Kailash region without the international visa requirements of the Tibet route. Designed especially for travellers departing from Mumbai, this carefully planned 10 Days / 9 Nights itinerary combines flights, mountain travel, sightseeing, and proper acclimatisation into a seamless pilgrimage. Covering Pithoragarh, Dharchula, Gunji, Jyolingkong, Adi Kailash, Parvati Sarovar, and Om Parvat, the journey includes adequate buffer time at the crucial flight-to-road transition, ensuring a safer, smoother, and more enjoyable Himalayan experience.
📍 Expert Tip: Travellers from Mumbai should ideally choose an early morning flight to Delhi or arrive a day in advance to ensure a comfortable connection towards Kathgodam. This helps avoid unnecessary travel fatigue before beginning the Himalayan section of the Adi Kailash Yatra.

⚠️ Who Should Reconsider?
This tour may not be suitable for travellers who are uncomfortable with same-day flight-to-road transitions, individuals with severe cardiac or respiratory conditions without medical clearance, or families travelling with very young children due to the long travel days and high-altitude environment.
💡 SnazzyTrips Recommendation: This itinerary is best suited for travellers who prefer a professionally organised pilgrimage with complete flight coordination, Inner Line Permit assistance, experienced mountain drivers, and local support, allowing them to focus entirely on the spiritual and scenic experience rather than travel logistics.
SnazzyTrips Recommendation
Based on our experience operating the Adi Kailash route, we strongly recommend that travellers from Mumbai retain the additional day included in this itinerary instead of trying to compress the Delhi connection into a tight same-day transfer. Weather-related flight delays, especially during the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon travel periods, can easily affect onward train departures from Delhi. Missing an overnight train often results in unnecessary stress, higher costs, and limited seat availability during the peak pilgrimage season.
Our 10 Days / 9 Nights itinerary is intentionally designed to treat the Delhi arrival evening as a planned overnight halt rather than a rushed transit window. This provides a more comfortable travel experience, reduces the risk of missed connections, and ensures you begin the Himalayan journey well-rested before travelling towards Kathgodam and the higher-altitude regions of Kumaon.
Our Travel Advice
- ✈️ Choose an early morning flight from Mumbai whenever possible to provide additional flexibility.
- 🚆 Book your Delhi–Kathgodam train tickets at least 6 weeks in advance, particularly for departures during May, June, September, and October.
- 🛂 Submit your Inner Line Permit documents well before departure so approvals are completed before reaching Dharchula.
- ⛰️ Avoid overly tight schedules and allow adequate buffer time for weather, traffic, and mountain road conditions.
- 📱 Stay connected with the SnazzyTrips operations team for real-time flight coordination and travel updates throughout the journey.
📍 Expert Recommendation: The extra day built into this itinerary isn't unused time—it's an important buffer that protects your pilgrimage from unexpected flight delays and train disruptions. A relaxed start to the journey makes the overall Adi Kailash Yatra safer, smoother, and far more enjoyable for travellers flying from Mumbai.

Required Documents & Inner Line Permit Information
Since Adi Kailash lies within a protected border region near the India–Tibet frontier, every traveller must obtain a valid Inner Line Permit (ILP) before crossing Tawaghat. This mandatory permit is issued by the local administration after document verification and identity checks. As part of your package, SnazzyTrips handles the complete permit coordination process, allowing you to focus on preparing for your pilgrimage rather than navigating government formalities.
For travellers departing from Mumbai, we recommend sending all required documents to our team well before your travel date instead of carrying paperwork to Delhi. This removes one coordination step from an already multi-leg journey and allows our operations team to complete the permit process before you reach the Himalayan region, ensuring a smoother departure from Dharchula.

| Medical Fitness Certificate | Strongly recommended for travellers above 60 years or anyone with pre-existing medical conditions. |

📍 Quick Fact: Travellers from Mumbai should submit all Inner Line Permit (ILP) documents at least 25 days before departure—around five days earlier than the standard recommendation—to accommodate courier transit time and ensure smooth permit processing before the journey begins.
How to Reach Adi Kailash from Mumbai
Reaching the Adi Kailash pilgrimage from Mumbai always involves a break of journey at Delhi, as there are currently no direct flights or trains connecting Mumbai with the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The most convenient route combines a domestic flight to Delhi followed by an overnight train or road journey to Kathgodam, the primary gateway for the Adi Kailash Yatra.
✈️ By Air (Mumbai → Delhi)
The fastest option is to fly from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). The journey takes approximately 2–2.5 hours, with multiple daily departures operated by major domestic airlines. After arriving in Delhi, travellers continue to Kathgodam by overnight train or private road transfer before beginning the Himalayan section of the pilgrimage.
🚆 Delhi to Kathgodam by Train
From Old Delhi or Anand Vihar Railway Station, travellers can board overnight trains such as the Kathgodam Express or Ranikhet Express. The journey typically takes around 8–9 hours, making it the most popular onward connection after reaching Delhi.
🚗 Delhi to Kathgodam by Road
Travellers who prefer a road journey can drive from Delhi to Kathgodam via NH-9. Covering approximately 300 km, the drive usually takes 7–8 hours depending on traffic and weather conditions. This option is popular among families and private groups travelling together.
🚆 Alternative Route by Train
Some travellers choose to travel from Mumbai to Delhi by long-distance train, a journey of approximately 16–17 hours, before continuing onwards to Kathgodam. Although economical, this option generally adds an extra day to the overall itinerary compared with flying.
🧭 Traveller Tip: Book a morning flight from Mumbai that arrives in Delhi before early afternoon. This provides sufficient buffer time to catch an evening train to Kathgodam on the same day or allows for a comfortable overnight stay before beginning the mountain journey.
About Adi Kailash – The Kailash of Kumaon
Nestled in the remote Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, Adi Kailash lies within India's protected Inner Line Permit (ILP) zone near the India–Tibet border. Revered by devotees as the Kailash of Kumaon, its distinctive four-sided peak is traditionally believed to be the earthly reflection of the sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet. Every year, thousands of Shiva devotees undertake this pilgrimage to seek blessings at Adi Kailash, Parvati Sarovar, and the naturally formed Om Parvat, making it one of Uttarakhand's most spiritually significant Himalayan circuits.
For travellers from Mumbai, the contrast is extraordinary. The journey begins amid the bustling streets of India's financial capital and gradually transforms into a peaceful Himalayan pilgrimage. After travelling through Delhi, Kathgodam, Pithoragarh, and Dharchula, the route follows the scenic Kali River valley via Tawaghat, Sobla, Garbyang, and Gunji. Beyond these remote border villages, monitored by ITBP checkpoints, the trail divides towards Nabidhang for the iconic Om Parvat viewpoint and Jyolingkong, home to the sacred Adi Kailash Peak and Parvati Sarovar. At this altitude, the sounds of city life disappear, replaced only by mountain winds, fluttering prayer flags, and temple bells.
Travellers wishing to explore more of the Kumaon Himalayas can also browse our Adi Kailash Tour Packages, which include extended itineraries covering Narayan Ashram, the beautiful Darma Valley, and additional sightseeing across Pithoragarh. These extended journeys offer a deeper understanding of the region's culture, landscapes, and ancient pilgrimage traditions.
🕉️ Why Mumbai Pilgrims Choose Adi Kailash Over the Tibet Route
For many devotees from Mumbai, Adi Kailash offers the spiritual significance of the Kailash tradition without the challenges of international travel. Unlike the Tibet pilgrimage, this route does not require foreign visas or a multi-week expedition, making it possible to complete a deeply meaningful Shaivite pilgrimage within a comfortable 10 Days / 9 Nights itinerary. Combined with improved road connectivity, professional permit assistance, and experienced local support, Adi Kailash has become one of the most preferred Himalayan pilgrimage destinations for travellers from Western India.
📍 Spiritual Insight: While both Mount Kailash and Adi Kailash hold immense significance in Hindu tradition, Adi Kailash allows pilgrims to experience the serenity of the Himalayas, visit sacred sites like Parvati Sarovar and Om Parvat, and complete the pilgrimage entirely within India, making it an increasingly popular choice for devotees travelling from Mumbai.
Best Time to Visit Adi Kailash from Mumbai
The Adi Kailash Yatra is generally accessible from May to October, after which heavy snowfall closes the high-altitude roads beyond Gunji. For travellers departing from Mumbai, domestic flight availability to Delhi remains consistent throughout the year, making the mountain weather—rather than air connectivity—the primary factor when choosing the ideal travel period.
May and June offer clear skies, pleasant daytime temperatures, and stable road conditions, making them popular months for pilgrimage, although Mumbai–Delhi airfares are typically higher due to the summer travel season. September and October are widely regarded as the best months for the journey, with crystal-clear mountain views, excellent visibility of Om Parvat, fewer crowds, and comparatively lower flight and train fares. We generally advise avoiding July and August, as the Mumbai monsoon coincides with the Himalayan landslide season, increasing the likelihood of flight delays and road disruptions.
| Month | Weather | Suitability | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| May | 5–15°C, clear skies | Excellent | Peak pilgrimage season with higher Mumbai–Delhi airfares. |
| June | 8–18°C, pleasant weather | Good | Book flights well in advance for better fares. |
| July | Heavy rainfall, landslide risk | Not Recommended | Mumbai monsoon may also increase the risk of flight delays. |
| August | Heavy rainfall, landslide risk | Not Recommended | Avoid travelling during this period due to weather-related disruptions. |
| September | 5–15°C, clear visibility | Very Good | Excellent mountain views with comparatively lower flight and train fares. |
| October | 0–12°C, crisp weather | Best Season | Beautiful post-monsoon scenery before the route closes later in the month. |
📍 Quick Fact: September is often the most rewarding month for travellers from Mumbai, offering lower airfares on the Mumbai–Delhi route, pleasant Himalayan weather, fewer crowds, and some of the clearest views of the sacred Om Parvat.
What to Pack
Travellers departing from Mumbai should prepare for a dramatic change in climate during the Adi Kailash Yatra. While Mumbai experiences warm, humid coastal weather, destinations such as Gunji and Jyolingkong can experience temperatures close to freezing, particularly during early mornings and nights. Packing the right clothing and essentials will make your pilgrimage safer, more comfortable, and better suited to high-altitude conditions.
🧥 Warm Clothing
Carry a quality down jacket, thermal innerwear, woollen cap, gloves, and warm socks. Night temperatures around Jyolingkong frequently approach freezing, even during the official travel season.
🥾 Trekking Footwear
Wear comfortable waterproof trekking shoes with good ankle support. Mountain trails can become uneven, rocky, or slippery due to changing weather conditions.
🌧️ Rain Protection
Keep a lightweight rain poncho or waterproof jacket handy, as Himalayan weather can change rapidly even during otherwise clear days.
💊 Medicines & First Aid
Carry your regular prescription medicines along with a basic first-aid kit containing pain relievers, bandages, antiseptic cream, motion sickness tablets, and any doctor-recommended altitude medication.
🪪 Identity Documents
Always carry your original Aadhaar Card or Passport on your person throughout the journey. Identity verification is required during your flight, hotel check-ins, and every Inner Line Permit (ILP) checkpoint.
💵 Cash & Essentials
Carry sufficient cash in small denominations, as ATM access and digital payment facilities become very limited beyond Dharchula. Also pack a reusable water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, moisturizer, torch, and a fully charged power bank.
🎒 Packing Tip: Pack in layers instead of carrying one heavy jacket. Layered clothing provides better insulation, is easier to adjust as temperatures change throughout the day, and is ideal for the varying climate experienced during the Adi Kailash Yatra from Mumbai.
SnazzyTrips Insights – Coordinating the Mumbai-to-Mountains Transition
With over 21 years of operating pilgrimages across Kumaon, we've learned that travellers from Mumbai face a unique logistical challenge compared to those starting from Delhi or Kathgodam. Before the Himalayan journey even begins, there is an additional layer of planning involving flight schedules, train timings, hotel stays, and permit coordination. The most common mistake we see is booking a tightly packed Mumbai–Delhi–Kathgodam connection on the same day. Even a modest flight delay of an hour or two can result in a missed overnight train, unnecessary hotel expenses, and avoidable travel stress before the pilgrimage has truly begun.
Based on years of experience, our operations team now recommends an overnight stay in Delhi for most Mumbai departures instead of attempting a rushed same-day transfer. This simple adjustment has significantly reduced missed connections and allows travellers to begin the mountain journey feeling rested rather than fatigued. Once the route moves beyond Dharchula, mobile connectivity becomes extremely limited, with intermittent BSNL coverage available only in select locations. Families accustomed to uninterrupted communication are briefed in advance so they know what to expect while travelling through Gunji, Nabi, Kuti, and Jyolingkong.
Altitude is another factor that deserves careful attention. Gunji, situated at approximately 3,600 metres, serves as an important acclimatisation stop before travellers continue to Jyolingkong, which lies at nearly 4,600 metres. Since Mumbai is located almost at sea level, the change in elevation can be more noticeable than it is for travellers already living in higher-altitude regions. Our itinerary deliberately includes adequate rest and gradual altitude gain, helping pilgrims adapt comfortably before reaching the sacred Adi Kailash region.
💡 Local Insight: The most successful Adi Kailash journeys from Mumbai are not the fastest—they are the best planned. Allowing sufficient buffer time for flight connections, acclimatisation, and mountain travel significantly improves comfort and reduces the risk of itinerary disruptions. That's why every SnazzyTrips itinerary is designed around real Himalayan operating conditions rather than ideal travel timings.
