Birthi Falls & Munsiyari Tour Package

Experience two of Kumaon's most beautiful natural attractions in one carefully planned journey with the Birthi Falls & Munsiyari Tour Package. This 5 Days / 4 Nights itinerary starts from approximately ₹13,999 per person (twin sharing) and combines the spectacular Birthi Falls with the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes of Munsiyari, giving travellers enough time to genuinely experience both destinations instead of simply passing through them.

Operated by SnazzyTrips, a trusted Uttarakhand Destination Management Company (DMC) with more than 21 years of local expertise, this package is designed for travellers who prefer relaxed sightseeing, scenic walks, authentic mountain experiences, and ample time to enjoy Kumaon's natural beauty.

💦 How tall is Birthi Falls, and what does a combined Munsiyari package cost?
Birthi Falls cascades from approximately 126 metres (around 400 feet), making it one of the tallest and most spectacular roadside waterfalls in Kumaon. Located about 33 km before Munsiyari on the Thal–Munsiyari Road, it is one of the region's must-visit natural attractions. The Birthi Falls & Munsiyari Tour Package starts from approximately ₹13,999 per person (twin sharing) for a 5 Days / 4 Nights itinerary.

Introduction

Many standard Munsiyari itineraries include Birthi Falls only as a brief roadside halt—a quick photograph before continuing towards the mountains. While the waterfall is visible from the highway, doing so barely captures its true beauty. The short walk down to the viewing area allows visitors to appreciate the full power and scale of the cascading water while enjoying the cool mountain surroundings.

Birthi is also one of the most pleasant refreshment stops on the route to Munsiyari. Small roadside cafés and local dhabas overlooking the valley provide an ideal place to relax over lunch or tea before continuing into the higher Himalayas—a stop many hurried group tours unfortunately miss.

This itinerary has been designed differently. Instead of treating Birthi Falls as a brief stop along the journey, it becomes an important highlight of the holiday alongside Munsiyari's famous views of the Panchachuli Peaks, scenic villages, peaceful mountain landscapes, and authentic Kumaoni culture.

Whether you are travelling with family, friends, or as a couple, this package offers the perfect balance between comfortable road travel, relaxed sightseeing, nature walks, mountain photography, and sufficient time to experience Kumaon's most beautiful destinations without feeling rushed.

💙 SnazzyTrips Recommendation: Don't rush through Birthi Falls. Spend at least 30–45 minutes exploring the viewpoint, walking closer to the waterfall, and enjoying a relaxed meal at one of the nearby roadside cafés. It transforms a simple roadside halt into one of the most memorable experiences of the journey to Munsiyari.

Tour Highlights

This itinerary combines one of Kumaon's tallest waterfalls with the panoramic Himalayan landscapes of Munsiyari, offering relaxed sightseeing, authentic mountain villages, local cuisine, and comfortable travel. Rather than rushing between attractions, every stop is planned to give travellers enough time to genuinely enjoy the destination.

💦 Birthi Falls at Base Level

Spend quality time at the magnificent 126-metre Birthi Falls, including the short walk down to the base of the waterfall instead of simply viewing it from the roadside.

🏔️ Panchachuli Peak Views

Enjoy spectacular views of the iconic Panchachuli Peaks directly from Munsiyari, one of the finest mountain panoramas in Kumaon.

🛕 Kalamuni Top & Temple

Visit Kalamuni Top at approximately 2,900 metres, home to the famous Kali Temple and beautiful Himalayan viewpoints located along the Munsiyari route.

🧣 Darkot Village

Explore the traditional Bhotia village of Darkot, renowned for handwoven pashmina shawls, woollen handicrafts, and its rich Himalayan heritage.

💧 Maheshwari Kund

Visit the peaceful alpine lake of Maheshwari Kund, surrounded by pine forests and easily included within the Munsiyari sightseeing circuit.

🍵 Birthi Roadside Dhaba Stop

Relax with tea and local snacks at the small roadside cafés beside Birthi Falls—one of the most enjoyable breaks on the journey to Munsiyari.

🍛 Authentic Kumaoni Cuisine

Taste regional specialities including Bhatt Ki Churkani, Gahat Dal, seasonal mountain vegetables, and traditional Kumaoni home-style meals.

📱 24×7 SnazzyTrips Support

Who This Package Is For

This tour is ideal for families, couples, senior travellers, and first-time visitors to Kumaon who want a comfortable sightseeing holiday without undertaking a high-altitude trek. It combines spectacular mountain scenery, waterfalls, traditional villages, and cultural experiences at a relaxed pace suitable for almost every age group.

✔️ Families looking for a relaxed Himalayan holiday with comfortable road travel.

✔️ First-time travellers to Munsiyari who want to experience both Birthi Falls and Panchachuli viewpoints.

✔️ Couples seeking peaceful mountain landscapes, scenic drives, and authentic Kumaoni culture.

✔️ Senior travellers and children, as the short walk to Birthi Falls is manageable for most fitness levels.

✔️ Travellers who prefer sightseeing, photography, and nature over physically demanding trekking.

SnazzyTrips Recommendation

💦 Give Birthi Falls the Time It Deserves. Most itineraries allow only a brief roadside photo stop before continuing towards Munsiyari. We intentionally schedule a 45–60 minute halt so you can comfortably walk down to the waterfall, enjoy the scenery, and experience the destination rather than simply passing by.

🍵 Enjoy a Relaxed Tea Break. The small roadside cafés and dhabas near Birthi Falls are among the most pleasant refreshment stops on the Munsiyari route. Taking time for tea or lunch here adds very little to the overall journey but greatly enhances the travel experience.

📸 Travel Slowly, See More. Rather than rushing between destinations, this itinerary balances comfortable driving with meaningful sightseeing, allowing you to enjoy both the grandeur of Birthi Falls and the spectacular Himalayan views of Munsiyari without feeling hurried.

How to Reach

Neither Munsiyari nor Birthi Falls has its own railway station or commercial airport. Fortunately, Birthi Falls lies directly on the approach road to Munsiyari, making it a natural sightseeing stop rather than a detour during the journey.

🚆 By Train via Kathgodam

Kathgodam Railway Station is the principal rail gateway to Kumaon with regular connections from Delhi and other major cities. From Kathgodam, the drive to Munsiyari covers approximately 275–280 km (around 9–10 hours) via Bhimtal, Almora, Berinag, and Birthi Falls. SnazzyTrips arranges station pickup along with an overnight stay in Chaukori for a comfortable journey.

✈️ By Flight via Pantnagar

Pantnagar Airport offers the nearest regular commercial flight connectivity and is approximately 280–310 km from Munsiyari. Although Naini Saini Airport (Pithoragarh) is much closer at around 125 km, scheduled flights are limited and seasonal.

🚘 By Road from Delhi

Driving directly from Delhi to Munsiyari covers approximately 560–600 km and generally takes 15–17 hours. SnazzyTrips recommends breaking the journey with an overnight stay in Almora, Kausani, or Chaukori, allowing enough time to enjoy Birthi Falls properly on the following day instead of rushing through it.

💙 SnazzyTrips Tip: The scenic drive between Kathgodam and Munsiyari is an important part of the holiday. Rather than covering the distance in one exhausting stretch, we recommend a comfortable overnight halt that allows you to enjoy Birthi Falls, mountain viewpoints, and the Kumaon countryside at a relaxed pace.

About Birthi Falls and Munsiyari

Located on the scenic Thal–Munsiyari Road, approximately 14 km from Tejam and about 33 km before Munsiyari, Birthi Falls is one of Kumaon's most impressive natural attractions. Cascading from a height of around 126 metres (400 feet) at an elevation of nearly 2,000 metres, the waterfall is visible from the roadside, but its true beauty is best appreciated after the short 15–20 minute paved walk to the viewing area at the base.

Standing beside the waterfall offers an entirely different experience from the roadside viewpoint. The cool mountain mist, the sound of rushing water echoing through the valley, and the sheer scale of the rock face make Birthi Falls one of the most memorable stops on the journey into the higher Himalayas.

Further along the same road lies Munsiyari, situated at approximately 2,200–2,300 metres above sea level at the entrance to the beautiful Johar Valley. The town is famous for its uninterrupted views of the magnificent Panchachuli Peaks and serves as the starting point for renowned Himalayan expeditions towards Milam Glacier, Ralam Glacier, and Namik Glacier.

Together, Birthi Falls and Munsiyari showcase two completely different sides of Kumaon's landscape. One offers dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and cool mountain valleys, while the other opens into expansive Himalayan panoramas dominated by snow-covered peaks. Experiencing both destinations on the same journey creates a far richer holiday than treating Birthi Falls as merely another roadside stop.

Travellers with additional time can extend their stay to explore more of the Johar Valley, traditional Himalayan villages, and scenic mountain drives, making Munsiyari an ideal base for discovering eastern Kumaon.

💙 Why This Combination Works: Birthi Falls and Munsiyari complement each other perfectly. One delivers the power of a Himalayan waterfall deep within forested valleys, while the other rewards visitors with wide-open views of the Panchachuli range—two very different landscapes experienced on a single scenic route.

Best Time to Visit

The Birthi Falls & Munsiyari circuit can be enjoyed for most of the year, with the most comfortable weather and clearest Himalayan views occurring between September and June. Since Birthi Falls is fed by natural springs, snowmelt, and mountain streams, it maintains an impressive water flow well beyond the monsoon season.

Season Conditions Highlights
April – June Pleasant temperatures with excellent road conditions. Crystal-clear Panchachuli views, comfortable sightseeing, and strong waterfall flow.
September – November Fresh post-monsoon weather and exceptional mountain visibility. Excellent photography conditions and lush green landscapes.
July – August Heavy rainfall and increased landslide risk along the Thal–Birthi route. Generally not recommended for this itinerary.
December – February Cold weather with occasional snowfall around Munsiyari. Ideal for travellers seeking snow-covered Himalayan scenery and comfortable with winter conditions.

🌿 Best Time to Travel: Visit between April and June or September and November for pleasant weather, excellent road conditions, spectacular Panchachuli views, and the best overall sightseeing experience.

👟 The Walk Is Easy, But Wear Good Shoes

The path to Birthi Falls is paved and suitable for most visitors, but it includes several steps. Comfortable walking shoes provide much better grip and make the short descent considerably easier.

🍵 Don't Skip the Roadside Dhabas

📶 Mobile Coverage Becomes Patchy

BSNL and Jio generally offer the most reliable coverage in Munsiyari, while mobile signals become noticeably weaker around the Birthi Falls stretch beyond Thal.

Reliable ATM facilities are available mainly in Munsiyari town. Carry sufficient cash from Kathgodam or Almora for local purchases, snacks, and any entry charges at Birthi Falls.
