Patna lives beside the Ganga. Every evening, lamps are lit at Gandhi Ghat, and the river flows past on its way to the sea. Haridwar is the same river much further upstream, where it leaves the Himalaya and enters the plains. For Patna families, the trip feels like following the Ganga back towards its source.
Getting there is simple. Between the Kumbha Express and the Upasana Express, a train leaves Patna Junction every night around 9:15 PM and reaches Haridwar the next afternoon. This package uses that timing for two nights in Haridwar, one night in Rishikesh, and then a climb into the hills to Surkanda Devi, a Shakti temple on a ridge at about 2,750 m, and the deodar forests of Dhanaulti. On the last day, you come back down through Mussoorie and Dehradun for a final Ganga Aarti in Haridwar, then board the late-night train home.
