Drive from Guptkashi to Gaurikund — 30 km, approximately 1 hour. The road at pre-dawn through the Mandakini valley with the peaks beginning to catch the first light above the treeline. Gaurikund at 4:30am–5:00am.
Trek begins. 8 km uphill from Gaurikund (1,982 metres) to Kedarnath (3,583 metres). The trek passes through Jungle Chatti (2 km), Bheembali (4 km), and Lincholi (6 km) before the final 2 km approach to the temple through the high-altitude meadow where the Kedarnath valley opens completely.
