7 Nights Days 8
1

🏔️ Valley of Flowers Hemkund Sahib Package from Mumbai | 8 Days / 7 Nights

The Valley of Flowers Hemkund Sahib Package from Mumbai is a complete 8 Days / 7 Nights Himalayan journey combining two of the most remarkable high-altitude destinations in the Garhwal Himalayas — the Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site at 3,500 metres, and Hemkund Sahib, one of the world's highest Sikh gurudwaras at 4,633 metres beside a pristine glacial lake.

Both destinations are accessed from Ghangaria, a small Himalayan village in Chamoli, Uttarakhand that serves as the only overnight base for this entire circuit. The Valley of Flowers is a nature trek — an alpine flower meadow covering 87.5 sq km with over 600 wildflower species in bloom during monsoon. Hemkund Sahib is a pilgrimage trek — steep, demanding, and deeply spiritual. Together, they form one of the most complete Himalayan experiences available in India.

This package is designed specifically for Mumbai travelers and managed end-to-end by SnazzyTrips, a leading DMC in Uttarakhand with 21+ years of on-ground Garhwal expertise and 150+ verified ground partners across the region.

⛰️ Can Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib Be Done Together from Mumbai?

Yes. Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib can comfortably be completed within the same itinerary from Mumbai because both destinations are accessed from Ghangaria, the only overnight base for this circuit.

The Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib are typically completed as two separate day treks. One day is dedicated to exploring the Valley of Flowers National Park, while another day is reserved for the more challenging trek to Hemkund Sahib at 4,633 metres.

Recommended Duration:
A minimum of 8 Days / 7 Nights is recommended for travelers departing from Mumbai. This provides sufficient time for flights, mountain travel, acclimatisation, trekking, and a comfortable return journey.

A well-paced itinerary generally includes:

  • ✈️ Mumbai to Dehradun flight
  • 🚘 Two-day Garhwal mountain road journey via Rishikesh and Joshimath
  • 🏔️ Acclimatisation halt at Joshimath/Pipalkoti
  • 🏨 Two nights in Ghangaria
  • 🌸 Dedicated Valley of Flowers trek day
  • ⛰️ Dedicated Hemkund Sahib trek day
  • 🚘 Comfortable return journey to Dehradun
Travel Tip:
Avoid itineraries that attempt Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib on the same day. The Hemkund Sahib trek is significantly steeper and more demanding. Separate trek days provide a safer, more enjoyable, and more rewarding Himalayan experience.

🏔️ SnazzyTrips Insights — 21 Years Operating the Ghangaria Circuit

Over more than 21 years of operating Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib journeys, our teams have guided thousands of travelers through the Ghangaria circuit. One observation remains remarkably consistent: most travelers prepare adequately for Valley of Flowers but underestimate the physical demands of Hemkund Sahib.

⚠️ Insight #1 — Hemkund Sahib Is a Different Challenge

Valley of Flowers at approximately 3,500 metres is generally comfortable for most active travelers. Hemkund Sahib, however, sits at 4,633 metres and involves an additional 1,100 metres of altitude gain, a steeper trail, thinner air, and the cumulative fatigue of previous trekking days.

Many Mumbai travelers arrive from sea level and assume the two treks will feel similar. In reality, Hemkund Sahib is a significantly more demanding experience and should be approached with proper preparation, pacing, and respect for altitude.

🌄 Insight #2 — Acclimatisation Is Not Optional

The additional stay at Joshimath is included for a reason. Gradually adjusting from sea level to the higher elevations of Ghangaria and Hemkund Sahib significantly improves comfort and trekking performance while reducing the likelihood of altitude-related discomfort.

This is why our itinerary includes two nights at Joshimath/Pipalkoti before reaching Ghangaria. The extra acclimatisation time is not a luxury upgrade—it is an important part of preparing the body for Himalayan trekking at altitude.

⏰ Insight #3 — Start Early for Hemkund Sahib

The Hemkund Sahib trail becomes considerably busier later in the morning, particularly during the peak August pilgrimage season. Early departures provide a noticeably better trekking experience.

  • 🌅 Cooler temperatures during the climb
  • 📸 Better mountain photography conditions
  • 🙏 A quieter and more peaceful atmosphere at Hemkund Sahib
  • 🚶 Less congestion on the trail
  • ⛰️ Improved visibility of surrounding Himalayan peaks

⭐ Recommended Departure Time

For the best experience, most experienced trekkers leave Ghangaria between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM. This timing allows travelers to reach Hemkund Sahib before the main pilgrimage rush and enjoy the surroundings in a calmer environment.

🌸⛰️ Best Time for Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Sahib from Mumbai

The ideal time for a combined Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib journey depends on whether your priority is maximum flower bloom, clearer mountain views, or a more comfortable pilgrimage experience. Both destinations are generally accessible between June and early October, but the experience changes significantly throughout the season.

Month 🌸 Valley of Flowers ⛰️ Hemkund Sahib Mumbai Traveler Suitability
June Early bloom, lighter flower density Open with fewer pilgrims Good for early-season trekkers seeking fewer crowds
July Bloom intensifies rapidly Open during active monsoon Excellent bloom development; rain gear essential
August ⭐ Peak bloom and maximum flower diversity Peak pilgrimage season Best overall flower experience; book early
September Reduced bloom; exceptional mountain views Open with clearer skies Excellent balance of scenery, comfort, and visibility
October Minimal bloom; season ending Closing by late October Limited availability; confirm operating dates

🏆 Best Overall Month

For travelers whose primary goal is experiencing the Valley of Flowers at its most colorful and vibrant stage, August remains the strongest choice. This is when the valley displays its maximum flower diversity and the iconic landscapes most visitors travel to see.

⛰️ Best Month for Hemkund Sahib

Travelers whose primary focus is Hemkund Sahib should strongly consider early September. The glacial lake is often clearer, surrounding peaks are more visible, weather conditions are more stable, and crowd levels are significantly lower compared to the August pilgrimage rush.

🌸⛰️ Valley of Flowers vs Hemkund Sahib — Complete Comparison

Although both treks begin from Ghangaria, they are fundamentally different experiences. Understanding the differences helps travelers prepare correctly and manage expectations before arriving in the Himalayas.

Recommended Itinerary Day Day 5 Day 6

🌸 Valley of Flowers — What to Expect

The Valley of Flowers trek is primarily about scenery, biodiversity, photography, waterfalls, and experiencing one of the world's most famous alpine meadows. The trail is relatively gentle and suitable for most travelers with basic fitness.

⛰️ Hemkund Sahib — What to Expect

Hemkund Sahib is a significantly more demanding trek. The steep ascent, thinner air, and high altitude make it physically challenging, but the reward is one of the most spectacular pilgrimage settings in the Himalayas.

⭐ SnazzyTrips Recommendation

Complete Valley of Flowers first and Hemkund Sahib the following day. The Valley trek acts as an excellent acclimatisation and fitness benchmark. After experiencing the Valley, travelers gain a much better understanding of how their body is responding to altitude before attempting the more demanding Hemkund Sahib climb.

📍 Pro Trekker Insight
Travelers who attempt Hemkund Sahib first often experience significant fatigue the next day, reducing the enjoyment of the Valley of Flowers. Following the Valley → Hemkund sequence typically results in a more comfortable and rewarding overall experience

🎒 What to Pack for Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Sahib from Mumbai

This itinerary includes two separate high-altitude treks — Valley of Flowers at approximately 3,500 metres and Hemkund Sahib at 4,633 metres. Combined with the Himalayan monsoon season, the conditions are dramatically different from Mumbai's warm coastal climate, making proper packing essential for comfort and safety.

⚠️ Important:
The Hemkund Sahib trail is significantly steeper and colder than Valley of Flowers. Gear that feels optional at sea level often becomes essential above 4,000 metres.

✅ Essential Gear for Both Treks

  • 🥾 Waterproof Trekking Shoes with Ankle Support
Mandatory for both treks. The Hemkund trail includes steep, wet, rocky sections where regular sports shoes can become unsafe.
  • 🌧️ Raincoat or Waterproof Poncho
One per traveler. Daily rainfall is common during July and August.
  • 🎒 Rain Cover for Daypack
Protect important documents, electronics, medicines, and extra clothing.
  • 🧥 Warm Mid-Layer (Fleece or Light Down Jacket)
Temperatures at Hemkund Sahib can feel surprisingly cold even during peak summer. Wind chill near the glacial lake is often stronger than expected.
  • 🪪 Original Government Photo ID
Required for permit verification and accommodation check-ins.
  • 💊 Personal & Altitude Medicines
Carry prescribed medications, pain relief tablets, digestive aids, first-aid supplies, and altitude medication if recommended by your doctor.
  • ☀️ SPF 50+ Sunscreen & UV Sunglasses
UV exposure increases significantly at higher elevations, even on cloudy days.
  • 🔋 Fully Charged Power Bank
Electricity supply in Ghangaria may be limited during peak season.
  • 💧 Minimum 2-Litre Water Bottle
Proper hydration is one of the simplest ways to improve trekking performance and reduce altitude-related fatigue.
  • 🥾 Trekking Pole / Walking Stick
Strongly recommended for Hemkund Sahib, especially during the descent when knees absorb most of the impact.

⛰️ Additional Hemkund Sahib Essentials

  • 🧤 Light gloves for cold morning starts
  • 🧢 Wool cap or beanie for high-altitude wind exposure
  • 🍫 Energy bars, dry fruits, or trail snacks
  • 🧦 Extra pair of socks in case of rain
  • 📸 Waterproof pouch for mobile phone and camera

🏔️ Mumbai Traveler Tip

Many travelers from Mumbai underestimate how cold Hemkund Sahib can feel. While the city may be humid and warm, temperatures near the glacial lake can drop rapidly, especially during early morning darshan. Always carry one warm layer more than you think you'll need.

📍 Packing Philosophy
Pack light but intelligently. Waterproof footwear, rain protection, warm layers, hydration, and trekking support gear contribute far more to a successful Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib journey than carrying excessive clothing.

💰 Cost & Budgeting — Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Sahib Package from Mumbai

The total cost of a Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib journey depends on accommodation standards, vehicle type, travel season, and flight pricing. ⭐ Most Popular Choice

The Mid-Range Package (₹26,999–₹32,999 per person) offers the best balance of comfort and value. Travelers receive quality accommodation, a private SUV, verified Ghangaria stays, and complete support for both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib without moving into premium pricing.

📍 Budgeting Insight
For most Mumbai travelers, spending slightly more on comfortable accommodation and private transport provides a far better experience than attempting to minimize costs. The combination of long road journeys, altitude, and consecutive trek days makes comfort a valuable investment.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Everything Mumbai travelers commonly ask before booking a Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Sahib package.

What is the price of the Valley of Flowers Hemkund Sahib package from Mumbai?

Packages start from ₹26,999 per person for 8 Days / 7 Nights, including accommodation, breakfast and dinner, private road transfers, trek support, and Valley of Flowers permit assistance. Flights from Mumbai are additional.

Can Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib be completed in 7 days from Mumbai?

Technically yes, but it is not recommended. A 7-day itinerary usually removes the Joshimath acclimatisation halt, making the 4,633-metre Hemkund Sahib trek significantly more demanding. An 8-day itinerary provides a much better experience.

Is Hemkund Sahib harder than Valley of Flowers?

Yes. Valley of Flowers is a moderate trek through alpine meadows, while Hemkund Sahib involves a steeper climb to 4,633 metres with considerably greater altitude gain and physical effort.

What is the best time to visit?

July and August deliver peak flower bloom in the Valley of Flowers. September offers clearer skies, fewer crowds, and often a more peaceful Hemkund Sahib experience while still providing excellent Himalayan scenery.

Which trek should I do first?

Valley of Flowers should always be completed before Hemkund Sahib. It helps your body adjust to altitude and provides a better benchmark for tackling the more demanding pilgrimage trek the following day.

 Is pony support available?

Yes. Pony services are available on the Govindghat–Ghangaria route and portions of the Hemkund Sahib trail. Advance booking is recommended during the peak season.

Is this package suitable for senior travelers?

Valley of Flowers is suitable for many active senior travelers. Hemkund Sahib is considerably more demanding and should only be attempted by seniors with strong fitness and medical clearance. Participation in the Hemkund trek can remain optional.

What time should I start for Hemkund Sahib?

An early departure between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM is ideal. This avoids heavy crowds, provides cooler trekking conditions, and allows more time to enjoy the gurudwara and glacial lake.

Can Badrinath or Auli be added to the itinerary?

Yes. Many travelers extend the trip with Badrinath or Auli. Customized Garhwal itineraries can easily include these destinations.

 Why choose SnazzyTrips?

Tour Plans

Day 1
Mumbai Departure | Dehradun Arrival | Rishikesh Check-In

Morning flight from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport. Flight time approximately 2 hours direct. SnazzyTrips driver waiting at arrivals with name placard. Transfer to Rishikesh — 18 km, 45 minutes.

Check in to Rishikesh hotel. Afternoon — walk the ghats, visit Ram Jhula, rest. Evening — Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat or Ram Jhula. This is the opening ceremony of the journey. The Ganga Aarti at dusk, with the cold Himalayan water catching the lamp light and the sound of conch shells from the ghat temples, is the moment the Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers pilgrimage begins emotionally — before the mountains are even visible.

SnazzyTrips team briefing at hotel — complete 8-day overview, altitude preparation guidance, Hemkund fitness assessment, Ghangaria packing checklist, daily departure timings.

🛏️ Overnight — Rishikesh hotel

Day 2
Rishikesh to Joshimath | Garhwal Sacred Highway

Post-breakfast departure. Rishikesh to Joshimath — 250 km, 8–9 hours through the Alaknanda valley.

The road passes every major Garhwal prayag — Devprayag where the Ganga officially begins, Rudraprayag where the Mandakini meets the Alaknanda, Karnaprayag where the Pindar joins. By Chamoli, the valley walls have risen significantly. Joshimath appears at 1,875 metres — the gateway to Badrinath, Auli, Valley of Flowers, and Hemkund Sahib. Check in. Dinner. Early sleep.

🛏️ Overnight — Joshimath or Pipalkoti hotel (Night 1 of 2)

Day 3
Joshimath Acclimatisation Day

This day is the most important investment in the success of the Hemkund Sahib trek on Day 6. Mumbai is at sea level. Joshimath is at 1,875 metres. Ghangaria is at 3,050 metres. Hemkund Sahib is at 4,633 metres. The body must climb this gradient gradually.

Morning — light walk around Joshimath. Visit the ancient Narasimha Temple — one of the most important Vaishnava shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas, with a significance connected to the Badrinath pilgrimage tradition. Optional: the Auli cable car for panoramic Himalayan views without physical exertion — Nanda Devi, Kamet, and the Hathi-Ghoda peaks from the gondola on a clear morning.

Afternoon — complete rest. Plenty of water. Simple food. No strenuous activity. The acclimatisation is happening whether or not you can feel it.

🛏️ Overnight — Joshimath or Pipalkoti hotel (Night 2 of 2)

Day 4
Govindghat to Ghangaria | The Approach Trek

Early morning departure from Joshimath — 21 km drive to Govindghat, 45 minutes. Local tempo service to Pulna (3 km further) — reducing the walking distance to approximately 6 km from Pulna to Ghangaria.

The Pulna–Ghangaria trail follows the Pushpawati River through oak, rhododendron, and birch forest with waterfalls throughout. It is consistently uphill — 1,000 metres of elevation gain over 6 km — but the trail is well-marked and the surroundings are genuinely beautiful. This is not the flat urban walking Mumbai travelers are accustomed to; it demands steady pace, proper breathing, and patience.

Pony and porter services are available and arranged in advance by SnazzyTrips for those who need assistance. Arrive Ghangaria by mid-afternoon. Check in to pre-confirmed guesthouse. Rest. Light dinner. Trek briefing for tomorrow's Valley of Flowers day.

🛏️ Overnight — Ghangaria guesthouse (Night 1 of 2)

Day 5
Valley of Flowers National Park Trek

Early start — Valley of Flowers entry gate opens at first light. From Ghangaria, 1 km flat to the park entrance, then the valley opens gradually over 3 km of alpine meadow.

The Valley of Flowers in bloom is not something that can be adequately described to someone who has not seen it. 600+ wildflower species covering a suspended meadow between glacier walls. The Brahma Kamal in dense clusters near the stream. Blue Poppy in the glacier margins. Himalayan Bellflower, Cobra Lily, Anemone, Potentilla in a color density that does not exist at lower altitudes. Mumbai travelers who have spent their lives surrounded by the city consistently describe the Valley of Flowers as one of the most unexpectedly moving things they have ever seen.

Trek 4 km into the valley and return to Ghangaria by afternoon. 5–6 hours with photography stops. Park permit managed by SnazzyTrips.

Back at Ghangaria by 3–4 pm. Critical: rest completely this afternoon. Eat well. Drink water. Sleep early. Hemkund Sahib tomorrow requires full energy reserves.

🛏️ Overnight — Ghangaria guesthouse (Night 2 of 2)

Day 6
Hemkund Sahib Darshan | Ghangaria to Govindghat Descent

4:30 AM wake-up. This is the defining day of the package.

Depart Ghangaria by 5:00 AM for Hemkund Sahib. The trail is 6 km uphill from Ghangaria (3,050 metres) to the gurudwara at 4,633 metres — a sustained climb of 1,583 metres in altitude over a distance that would be moderate on flat terrain but is demanding at this altitude. The trail passes through dwarf rhododendron meadow, then into rocky high-altitude terrain as the treeline disappears. At approximately 4,000 metres, the glacial valley opens and Hemkund Sahib becomes visible above.

The Hemkund Sahib gurudwara sits directly beside the star-shaped glacial lake. Seven Himalayan peaks surround the lake on three sides. The Sikh morning prayers in the gurudwara — the Nitnem, recited in the cold Himalayan air with the lake outside the open doorway — create a spiritual atmosphere unlike anything at lower altitudes. The langar (free community meal) at the gurudwara is open to all visitors regardless of faith or background.

This is the specific experience that draws pilgrims from Mumbai, Pune, and Maharashtra every season — the combination of the extreme altitude, the glacial lake, the gurudwara prayers, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks creates something that stays in memory with unusual permanence.

Begin descent by noon. 6 km downhill to Ghangaria, then continue to Govindghat/Pulna. Take the pony for the Ghangaria–Govindghat descent if knees are tired — do not skip it. Transfer to Joshimath. Dinner. Sleep.

🛏️ Overnight — Joshimath or Pipalkoti hotel

Day 7
Joshimath to Rishikesh | Return Drive

Post-breakfast departure. Return drive — Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, Devprayag, Rishikesh — 250 km, 8–9 hours.

The return drive through Garhwal has a different quality than the outward journey. Both treks are behind you. The Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib are now completed experiences rather than anticipated ones. Devprayag on the return — the precise confluence where the Ganga begins — feels like a natural closing point for the pilgrimage circuit.

Arrive Rishikesh by evening. Check in. Optional Ganga Aarti at Ram Jhula if arrival timing allows. The Ganga Aarti on the last night is a genuinely different experience from the first night — the same river, the same lamps, but a completed Himalayan circuit standing behind it.

Day 8
Rishikesh to Dehradun Airport | Departure to Mumbai

Post-breakfast check-out. Transfer from Rishikesh to Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport — 18 km, 45 minutes to 1 hour. Board flight to Mumbai.

The Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib journey from Mumbai — the Ganga Aarti in Rishikesh, the five prayags from the car window, the flower meadow at 3,500 metres, the glacial lake and gurudwara at 4,633 metres — is a complete Garhwal Himalayan circuit. It is the kind of travel that does not fade quickly.
