By Flight to Dehradun

🚖 Dehradun to Govindghat: Approximately 270 km — around 9–10 hours by road.

The Blooming Season

From July to September, the valley transforms into a colourful carpet of alpine flowers, with different species blooming throughout the monsoon season. Botanists and trekkers alike regard it as one of the richest alpine flora regions anywhere in the Himalayas.

July — Early Bloom

Early monsoon flowers begin blooming as the valley turns progressively greener and more colourful. Frequent rainfall makes quality waterproof clothing and trekking shoes essential.

August — Peak Bloom

The most popular month for the trek, with the widest variety of Himalayan flowers blooming simultaneously. Advance booking of Ghangaria accommodation is highly recommended.

September — Late Bloom & Clear Skies

Rainfall gradually reduces while Himalayan visibility improves. An excellent choice for Mumbai photographers and trekkers seeking pleasant weather with fewer crowds.

October Onwards — Closed Season

The National Park closes as winter approaches and remains inaccessible until the following June because of snowfall.

Quick Fact

The Valley of Flowers trail climbs only around 600 metres over approximately 6 km from Ghangaria, making it one of the more accessible Himalayan treks for reasonably fit first-time trekkers.

Traveller Tip

Carry reliable rain gear regardless of the weather forecast. Monsoon conditions in the valley change rapidly, and trekking trails can become slippery within minutes.

Park Opening Dates

The Valley of Flowers National Park generally opens around 1 June and closes in early October. Final opening and closing dates are announced each season by the Forest Department.
